Garnet Tennis Picks Up First Centennial Win, Earns Saturday Split

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A clean sweep of Centennial Conference rival Bryn Mawr highlighted a two-match day for the Swarthmore College women's tennis team (3-2, 1-0), as the Garnet defeated the Owls 9-0, but opened the day with a 7-2 loss to No. 13 Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon from the Mullan Center. Weather Affects Baseball, Golf Schedules

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Heavy rains across the region has forced the cancellation of upcoming Swarthmore College baseball and golf events. Sunday's scheduled home baseball doubleheader against SUNY-IT has been cancelled, as well as the golf team's home match against Neumann, Widener and La Salle scheduled for Monday. Avenging Angels Sweep Garnet to Conclude Spring Trip

RALEIGH, N.C. - It was a sour ending to the North Carolina Spring Break trip for the Swarthmore College softball team (2-6), as Meredith (10-6) pitchers held the Garnet offense to just one run over two games, as the Avenging Angels defeated Swat 2-0 and 5-1 on Friday evening.

Senior Kathryn Riley pitched well despite not picking up a win on the day, allowing just one earned run while tossing 10.2 innings on the day. Riley also got it done at the plate for the Garnet, finishing the day 3-of-5 from the plate. Read the rest of this entry »

Wild Game Ends in Heartbreak for Garnet as Wesleyan Rallies for 11-10 (10) Win

PEORIA, Ariz. - The Swarthmore College baseball team's Spring Break trip ended in heartbreaking fashion, as a wild pitch from sophomore Zach Weiner in the bottom of the 10th inning proved to be the difference as Wesleyan rallied from a four-run eighth inning deficit to defeat the Garnet 11-10 in 10 innings on Friday afternoon from the Padres Spring Training Facility in Peoria, Arizona.

With the defeat, the Garnet finish the Arizona trip with a 3-5 record.

Garnet Lacrosse vs Savannah College Cancelled

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Due to heavy rains in the Southeastern U.S., today's scheduled women's lacrosse game between the Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team (2-0) and the Savannah College of Art & Design has been cancelled. No make-up date will be scheduled.

Sea Gulls Fly Past Garnet Tennis 8-1

SALISBURY, Md. - Sophomore Rosie DuBrin picked up a victory out of No.3 singles, but it wasn't enough for the Swarthmore College women's tennis team, as Salisbury defeated the Garnet 8-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Garnet Drop Two Against Pacers on Spring Break

RALEIGH, N.C. - A struggling offense doomed the Swarthmore softball team (2-4) on Wednesday afternoon as the Peace College Pacers (12-6, 1-1) took down the Garnet in two five-inning games from the Wachovia Athletic Park.  Swarthmore lost game one 11-0 and game two 8-0. Wesleyan Outlasts Garnet for Twinbill Sweep

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Swarthmore College baseball team's impressive start to the 2010 start came to halt on Wednesday afternoon in the desert, as the Garnet (3-2) were swept by unbeaten Wesleyan 18-9 and 7-4 from Desert Edge High School.

Swat's loss in the second half of the doubleheader was a particularly tough defeat, as the Cardinals (5-0) rallied from down 3-1 in fifth inning of the seven inning contest, while sophomore Spencer Ross saw his potential game-tying three-run home run robbed by a spectacular catch by the Wesleyan right-fielder Brice Kelly off the wall.
