Samuelson Earns Two Titles to Lead Garnet Tennis at ITA Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Katie Samuelson won the women’s Blue 2 Singles championship while pairing up with sophomore Stephanie Chia to capture the women’s Blue 2 doubles title to lead the Swarthmore College women’s tennis team at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships this weekend at the University of Mary Washington.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Luann Cignavitch, sophomore Stephanie Chia and freshmen Brooke Wilkins and Epiphany English all picked up singles wins for the Swarthmore College women’s tennis team, as the Garnet opened the Fall season by hosting the Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

Four Swarthmore Student-Athletes Named to Philadelphia Inquirer 2010 Spring Academic All-Area Teams

PHILADELPHIA – Swarthmore College student-athlete Rachel Wallwork ’10 was named the 2010 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Tennis Performer of the Year for the second consecutive year, while colleagues Wiley Archibald ’10 (baseball), Kevin Friedenberg ’10 (men’s lacrosse), and Stephen Youngblood ’12 (men’s tennis) were also selected as Academic All-Stars for their respective sports, the paper announced on Tuesday.

Wallwork Named Second Team Academic All-American

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Rachel Wallwork ’10 of the Swarthmore College women’s tennis team has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America women’s at-large team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday morning. Wallwork is a second-team selection in the College Division.

Make Your Voice Heard: Vote For The Top Swarthmore Athletics Moment of 2009-10

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It certainly was a year to remember for Swarthmore Athletics: seven playoff teams, three All-Americans, 11 first-team Centennial Conference members, six Centennial gold medalists and one national champion and American record holder. With the 2009-10 season officially in the rear view, the Swarthmore College Department of Athletics has decided to let the fans vote on the top Swarthmore Athletics moment of the past year.

Throughout the month of June, fans will be able to vote for their favorite Swarthmore moments via the poll at the bottom of the page. Lasting from June 2 to June 15, the current poll features 12 of top moments from the 2009-10 season selected by the Swarthmore Department of Athletics. On June 16, the list of 12 will be narrowed down to five, with the five events receiving the most votes moving to a final poll, which will last from June 16 to June 30. On July 1, the top Swarthmore Athletics event of the 2009-10 season will be announced.

Wallwork Honored With ITA Atlantic South Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award

Wallwork, Miller and Pollen Named ESPN the Magazine/Cosida Academic All-District

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Rachel Wallwork (women’s tennis), senior Anne Miller (women’s swimming) and sophomore Travis Pollen (men’s swimming) were recently named to the ESPN the Magazine/Cosida Academic All-District II Team, as voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Wallwork is a first-team selection in the Women’s At-Large College Division for the second consecutive year, Pollen was named to the Men’s At-Large Second Team, while Miller makes the Women’s At-Large Third Team.

BALTIMORE – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (12-5) fell to Johns Hopkins (15-8) in the Centennial Conference championship match in five straight matches, 5-0. Hopkins picked up its fourth straight Conference title.

Swat Tennis Advances to Centennial Finals with 5-2 Win Over Dickinson

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (12-4) is on its way to the Centennial Conference championship match, as the No. 2 seed Garnet defeated No. 3 Dickinson 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts at the College. With the victory, the Garnet will now travel to Baltimore to take on top seed Johns Hopkins for the Centennial title and automatic spot in the NCAA Championships. Action is slated to begin 11:00 a.m.
