Make Your Voice Heard: Vote For The Top Swarthmore Athletics Moment of 2009-10

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It certainly was a year to remember for Swarthmore Athletics: seven playoff teams, three All-Americans, 11 first-team Centennial Conference members, six Centennial gold medalists and one national champion and American record holder. With the 2009-10 season officially in the rear view, the Swarthmore College Department of Athletics has decided to let the fans vote on the top Swarthmore Athletics moment of the past year.

Throughout the month of June, fans will be able to vote for their favorite Swarthmore moments via the poll at the bottom of the page. Lasting from June 2 to June 15, the current poll features 12 of top moments from the 2009-10 season selected by the Swarthmore Department of Athletics. On June 16, the list of 12 will be narrowed down to five, with the five events receiving the most votes moving to a final poll, which will last from June 16 to June 30. On July 1, the top Swarthmore Athletics event of the 2009-10 season will be announced.

Garnet Softball Falls Short in Conference Championship Round, Lose to Dickinson 3-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – After two days of Centennial Conference softball, Swarthmore’s championship run would come to an end with a hard fought 3-1 loss to the Dickinson Red Devils in the championship round. Swat’s second place finish equals the program’s best showing in the tournament.

Riley No-Hitter Propels Garnet into Centennial Conference Championship Round

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior Kathryn Riley threw her second no-hitter of the year to give the Swarthmore College softball team a 1-0 win over top-seed and host Ursinus, sending the Garnet into the Centennial Conference championship round.

Riley’s no-hitter is only the second in Centennial Conference playoff history and fourth of her career.

Softball Falls to Dickinson 1-0, Faces Ursinus in Elimination Game

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – For the second straight game, the Garnet received a gem on the mound from Riley. But the pitching of No. 4 Dickinson kept the Garnet at bay all afternoon as Swarthmore fell to the Red Devils 1-0.

With the loss, the Garnet drop into the loser’s bracket of the 2010 Centennial Conference Softball Tournament and will face No.1 Ursinus on Sunday morning at 10AM from Collegeville.

Swat Softball Preps for Postseason With Split of Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – After not scoring a single run in a 1-0 loss in the first half of Saturday’s doubleheader with Haverford, the bats came to life in the second game for the Swarthmore College softball team (19-21, 10-6), as the Garnet pounded out 12 runs on 14 hits to earn a split with Fords thanks to a 12-4 victory in the second game.

Strong Pitching Gives No. 20 Rowan Sweep of Swat Softball, 5-0 and 2-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – No. 20 Rowan used two strong pitching performances – including a five-inning no-hitter from starting pitcher Jamie Minix in Game 2 – as the Profs swept the Swarthmore College softball team 5-0 and 2-0 on Thursday evening from Clothier Field.

Despite the losses, it wasn’t all bad news for the Garnet (18-20, 9-5), as the team clinched a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs due to Ursinus’ sweep of Haverford.
