No. 20 Garnet Flood Franklin & Marshall 4-0 on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Seniors Julia Luongo and Maggie DeLorme certainly made it a Senior Day to remember, as the Class of 2010 pair each scored a goal in their final home game at Clothier Field, as the No. 20 Swarthmore women’s soccer team (13-4, 7-3) overwhelmed visiting Franklin & Marshall 4-0 on a rainy Saturday night at the College.

Newman Nets Two as No. 6 Garnet Defeat Rival Haverford 4-2

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior defender Gage Newman – who missed the previous game because of an illness – returned to the pitch in style, scoring two second half goals to help lead the No. 6 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team (14-1-2, 6-1-2) to 4-2 victory at rival Haverford on Saturday afternoon.

McMinn Paces Cross Country Men at Centennial Championship

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman John McMinn made a strong debut running at his first Centennial Conference championship, leading the pack for the Swarthmore College men’s cross country team with a 21st-place finish (27:59.96), helping the Garnet earn a sixth-place team finish (51) at the championship race on Saturday afternoon from Gettysburg College.

Volleyball Loses Tough Conference Showdown to Franklin & Marshall 3-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Garnet (18-9, 6-4 CC) volleyball team suffered a tough 3-1 loss to a visiting Franklin & Marshall squad Saturday afternoon to round out their regular season play. Sophomore Genny Pezzola had 11 kills and 29 digs but still remains three kills away from the Jen Wang’s single season record of 361.

Rose Leads Cross Country Women to Fifth-Place Finish at Centennial Championship

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Hannah Rose led the pack for the Swarthmore College women’s cross country team, coming in 17th place with a time of 24:27.43 to help the Garnet earn a fifth-place team finish (39) at the Centennial Conference championship on Saturday afternoon from Gettysburg College.

Franklin & Marshall Rallies to Defeat Field Hockey 4-2 on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It was a bittersweet ending to the Swarthmore College field hockey team’s home season, as Franklin & Marshall – needing a win to make the Centennial Conference playoffs – rallied for three goals in the second half to defeat the Garnet 4-2 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field Stadium. Freshman Sophia Agathis and junior captain Sophia Ferguson scored first-half goals while senior Gina Grubb made it a Senior Day to remember by recording a career-high 17 saves.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – 110 minutes just wasn’t enough for two of the top teams in the Centennial Conference. In a well played and evenly contested match, the No. 6 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team (13-1-2, 5-1-2) used an outstanding defensive performance and a stellar outing from junior captain goalkeeper Zach Weimar to earn a 0-0 tie against first-place Muhlenberg (10-3-2, 6-1-1) on Senior Night from Clothier Field Stadium.

Volleyball Shut Down by No. 25 Haverford 3-0; Clinch Playoff Berth with McDaniel Loss

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomore Genny Pezzola and freshman Kat Montemurro racked up 12 kills apiece for the Garnet but wasn’t enough as the nationally ranked, No. 25 Fords blanked Swarthmore 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) in Haverford Wednesday night.
