Balanced Offensive Attack Leads No. 7 Garnet to 6-0 Victory Over Washington College

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Coming off its first loss of the season, the No. 7 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team certainly played liked a team that had something to prove against conference-rival Washington College. Six different players found the back of the net as the Garnet (8-1, 2-1) completely dominated the visiting Shoremen in all facets of the game for a 6-0 victory on Wednesday night from Clothier Field Stadium.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Genny Pezzola had 14 kills for the Garnet Wednesday night as host Swarthmore (12-5) made quick work of conference challenger Washington College (8-7) for a 3-0 straight sets victory (25-13, 25-15 and 25-21).

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Megan Colombo scored two goals, senior Taylor Rhodes recorded a goal and two assists and sophomore Hannah Deming also found the back of the net as the No. 20 Swarthmore women’s soccer team (8-2, 2-1) overwhelmed Centennial Conference-rival Washington College 4-0 on Tuesday evening from Clothier Field Stadium.

Field Hockey Loses Heartbreaker to Washington 2-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Washington College sophomore Gussie Reilly scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute as the visiting Shorewomen rallied to beat the Garnet 2-1 at Clothier Field on Tuesday night.

No. 3/9 Garnet Fall to No. 12 Dickinson 1-0 on Penalty Kick in OT

CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson’s Thomas Parkinson scored on a penalty kick in the 7th minute of the first overtime, as the No. 12 Red Devils upset the No. 3/9 Swarthmore men’s soccer team 1-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Central Pennsylvania. The loss is the Garnet’s (7-1, 1-1) first of the 2009 season.

Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Richard Stockton Quad Meet

POMONA, NJ – Swarthmore (11-5) added to its win column on Saturday, traveling to Richards Stockton and winning two of three games. The Garnet defeated Manhattanville 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-14) and John Jay 3-0 (25-4, 25-13, 25-17) but were shut down by host Richard Stockton 3-0.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Marie Mutryn made nine saves, but the Blue Jays Ava Scheininger scored in the 37th minute of the first half as the Garnet (7-2, 1-1) fell to conference-rival No. 14 Johns Hopkins 1-0 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

Field Hockey Upset Bid Falls Short Against No. 8 Johns Hopkins, 2-1 (OT)

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Freshman Sophia Agathis scored with :12 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, but it was not enough as Johns Hopkins’ Brittany Bland scored in the fifth minute of overtime, leading the No. 8 Blue Jays past the Swarthmore field hockey team 2-1 (OT) on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

Senior captain goalkeeper Gina Grubb was outstanding in cage for the Garnet, recording 15 saves to put the Garnet in position for what would have been one of the biggest wins in program history.
