Garnet Drop Two Against Pacers on Spring Break
RALEIGH, N.C. - A struggling offense doomed the Swarthmore softball team (2-4) on Wednesday afternoon as the Peace College Pacers (12-6, 1-1) took down the Garnet in two five-inning games from the Wachovia Athletic Park. Swarthmore lost game one 11-0 and game two 8-0.
GAME 1 BOX SCORE
Swarthmore was in a 2-0 hole after just the first inning but a seven run second inning from the Pacers would put the Garnet a hole too deep to climb out of.
The Garnet saw some life in the third inning with hits from seniors Michele Perch and Kathryn Riley to get runners in scoring position but were unable to finish as the Pacer's Ashley Stansbury closed out the side on a strikeout and fly-out.
Swarthmore was unable to get a runner on base for the rest of the game as the Pacers would take game one 11-0.
GAME 2 BOX SCORE
The Garnet women were looking to split the doubleheader and pick up its first spring break win but Peace College wouldn't let that happen taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Swarthmore tried to get something going in the third when freshman Samantha Bennett singled but the momentum was quickly brought to a hault when freshman Angelica Sanchez got caught stealing third base.
It was all Peace from there as the Thunder would score in every inning from there on out to end it early again in the fifth inning 8-0.
The Swarthmore softball team will search for its first spring break win on Friday March 12 when they face off against Meredith College. Action is slated to begin at 2 PM.
