Langley Breaks Career, Single-Season Points Records as No. 8/9 Garnet Defeat Haverford 2-0 on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Now that is how to go out in style on Senior Day.

Senior Morgan Langley scored a pair of goals to break the program’s single season and career points records, leading the No. 8/9 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over arch-rival Haverford on Saturday evening in front a capacity crowd at Clothier Field Stadium.

Seniors Shine as Garnet Women Defeat F&M 4-0; Peterson Sets Assist Mark

LANCASTER, Pa. – Led by two goals from freshman midfielder Megan Brock and a recording-setting assist from senior Kirsten Peterson, the Swarthmore Garnet women’s soccer team (8-7-2, 6-4) closed out the 2010 regular season with a resounding 4-0 victory over the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats (7-8-1, 3-7) on Saturday evening at F&M’s Tylus Field.

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore volleyball team (17-10, 7-3 CC) fell in a tough Conference match-up to the F&M Diplomats (20-6, 8-2 CC) in another back and forth battle 3-0 (19-25, 24-26, 19-25).

The loss gives the Garnet the fourth seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and will host Gettysburg College on Wednesday for first round action.

McMinn, Phillips Pace Garnet Men to Fourth-Place Finish at Centennials

ELKRIDGE, Md. – Sophomores John McMinn and Jacob Phillips crossed the finish line in 21st and 22nd place respectively (25;57.80 and 25.58.30), leading the Swarthmore College men’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Elkridge, Md. – Freshman Emma Saarel finished in 13th place with a time of 22:39, good enough to earn second-team all-conference honors, leading the Swarthmore College women’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning from Elkridge, Maryland.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore volleyball team (17-9, 7-2 CC) fought a hard battle in its heated Conference rivalry game against Haverford (16-13, 9-0 CC) but fell short as the Fords would go on to win 3-1 (20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25).

No. 8/9 Garnet Men Secure Top Seed With 1-0 Win at No. 20 Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The road to the Centennial Conference Championship will go through Clothier Field Stadium.

In a battle between two of the top teams in the Conference and in the region, senior Morgan Langley scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 48th minute to give the No. 8/9 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team a 1-0 road victory over No. 20 Muhlenberg on Wednesday evening from Allentown.

With the win, the Garnet (13-1-2, 6-0-2) secure the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs and home-field advantage for the event. The Swarthmore win also hands the Mules their first loss of the 2010 season (8-16).

Field Hockey Closes Out Home Campaign With Loss to Haverford

Swarthmore, Pa. – Playing her final game at Clothier Field Stadium, senior Sophia Ferguson scored a late second-half goal for the Swarthmore College field hockey team (6-11, 3-6), but visiting Haverford scored four goals in each half en route to the 8-1 victory over the Garnet on a wet Wednesday afternoon.
