HAVERFORD, Pa. -Sophomore Hannah Rose ‘12 finished in 15th place at the Haverford Main Line Invitational on Thursday as the Swarthmore women’s cross country team continued their 2009 campaign following a third-place team finish at the Dickinson Long-Short Run last Saturday.

Mutryn Named ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The accolades keep coming for sophomore goalkeepr Marie Mutryn. The reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week was also recently named the ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the South Region, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Mutryn (Rexford, N.Y./Niskayuna) was terrific in goal last week as the Garnet went 1-1 against a pair of Top 25 opponents.  She turned away all six shots as Swarthmore defeated No. 25 Dickinson, 1-0, in the Conference opener.  She  made a career-high 12 saves in a 2-0 loss to No. 8 College of New Jersey.  For the week, she had a 90.0 save percentage. For the season, Mutryn is sporting a 0.70 goals against average and .881 save percentage.

The No. 18/20 Garnet return to action on Saturday  with a crucial home Centennial Conference match-up against the four-time defending champion and No. 14 Johns Hopkins. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.

Mills Scores in OT as No. 18/20 Garnet Defeat Widener 1-0

CHESTER, Pa. - Junior Elizabeth Mills scored the game-winning goal from 10-yards out in the second minute of overtime as the No. 18/20 Swarthmore women's soccer team (7-1) defeated previously unbeaten Widener (7-1-1) on Thursday evening.

Despite getting eight shots on goal in regulation and controlling the tempo throughout, the Garnet just couldn't catch a offensive break  against the Pride's defense. That changed with the start of overtime. Mills took a pass on the left wing from fellow junior Kirsten Peterson and beat Widener keeper Vanessa Hejnas  to win the game for Swat.

Swarthmore Rolls to 3-0 Victory in Conference Opener

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Swarthmore (9-4) traveled to Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday night where it would open up its conference schedule.  The Garnet made the visit quick as sophomore OH Genny Pezzola led the team to a 3-0 victory.

No. 3/9 Garnet Keep Rolling, Rout Immaculata 5-0

IMMACULATA,  Pa. - Junior Morgan Langley and sophomore Henry Ainley each scored two goals and senior Omari Faakye scored the first goal of his career as the No. 3/9 Swarthmore men's soccer team (7-0, 1-0) continued its recent string of dominant performances, defeating Immaculata 5-0 on Wednesday evening.

Goalkeepers David D'Annunzio and Zach Weimar and the Garnet defense were rock solid once again. Sophomore D'Annunzio and junior captain Weimar - two of the Centennial Conferences' leaders in goals against average and save percentage -  combined for the shutout, the team's sixth in seven games this season. Likewise, the Garnet defense has not allowed a goal in four consecutive games - a streak now spanning 402 minutes.

Field Hockey Defeats Neumann 3-2

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior  Sophia Ferguson notched a goal and assist while junior Sara McCabe and freshman Katie Teleky each found the back of the cage as the Swarthmore College field hockey team held off a late Neumann rally and hung on for the 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon from Clothier Field Stadium.

Field Hockey Live Video Postponed Until Saturday

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Due to the threat of afternoon thunderstorms  in the area, today's live video stream of the Swarthmore field hockey match against Neumann has been postponed.  The first  live video stream for the Garnet field hockey team will now take place on Saturday at noon against No. 8 Johns Hopkins.

Cross Country Men Enter Regional Top 10

NEW ORLEANS - After finishing fourth at the Dickinson Long Race on Saturday, the Swarthmore men's cross country team has entered the USTFCC Division III Mideast Regional rankings. The Garnet enter the poll tied for 10th with Salisbury.
