Cross Country Men Impressive at Main Line Invitational
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Led by freshmen Jonathon McMinn ’13 and Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey ’13, the Swarthmore College men’s cross country team turned in a strong performance at the Haverford Main Line Invitational on Thursday afternoon.
Four of the top five Garnet finishers were freshmen, with Jacob Phillips ’13 finishing fourth for Swarthmore and Brian King ’13 fifth. Junior Patrick Hartnett placed third for the Garnet, thirty-sixth overall.
In what is being called their best performance since 2006, the men’s team was impressive on the four-mile course at Haverford. McMinn, who placed twenty-eighth overall with a time of 21:08, finished third amongst runners not from Haverford or Villanova. DuMont- McCaffrey finished less than a second behind his teammate with a time of 21:09.
It was the second solid showing for the Garnet in the past week. The men opened up their 2009 campaign with a fourth-place finish out of twenty-four teams in the long run at the Dickinson Long-Short Run on Saturday. The Haverford Main Line Invitational did not record team scoring.
The Garnet return to action on October 2 with the nationally-renowned Paul Short Invite. The race is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
