No. 3/9 Garnet Keep Rolling, Rout Immaculata 5-0

IMMACULATA,  Pa. - Junior Morgan Langley and sophomore Henry Ainley each scored two goals and senior Omari Faakye scored the first goal of his career as the No. 3/9 Swarthmore men's soccer team (7-0, 1-0) continued its recent string of dominant performances, defeating Immaculata 5-0 on Wednesday evening.

Goalkeepers David D'Annunzio and Zach Weimar and the Garnet defense were rock solid once again. Sophomore D'Annunzio and junior captain Weimar - two of the Centennial Conferences' leaders in goals against average and save percentage -  combined for the shutout, the team's sixth in seven games this season. Likewise, the Garnet defense has not allowed a goal in four consecutive games - a streak now spanning 402 minutes.

The Garnet opened the game a bit sluggish, giving up several shots and corners to the homestanding Mighty Macs (1-3-3). The momentum shifted in the 30th minute when Ainley scored the first of his two goals to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead.

Once Ainley broke the ice, the offensive avalanche began to roll for the Garnet. Four minutes later, Morgan Langley scored the first of his two goals to extend the lead to 2-0. With his two goals for the game, Morgan Langley is now second in the Centennial Conference with seven goals.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Langley once again found the net early, this time in the 54th minute,  making the score 3-0. The next Swat goal came with much delight to Garnet fans everywhere; senior Omari Faakye scored the first goal of his career in the 60th minute to give Swat a commanding 4-0 lead.  The final dagger came on Ainley's second goal of the game - set up on an assist from freshman Thomas Drew - bringing the game to the 5-0 final.

The Garnet dominated in nearly every aspect of the game, out-shooting the Mighty Macs 24-7 (8-1 SOG) and holding a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. For the season, the Garnet has outscored its opponents 23-1 and 10-0 in road games.

Swarthmore returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Carlisle for a critical Centennial Conference match-up against No. 12 Dickinson. Action is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
