SWARTHMORE, Pa. - It was a record-setting day for senior Kathryn Riley, as she picked up her 500th career strikeout in the sixth inning of the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with Washington, while in the second game, she became Swarthmore's all-time hits leader (158) with a double to left field, helping the Swarthmore College softball team (17-17, 9-5) earn a crucial Centennial Conference sweep of the Shorewomen 2-1 and 8-0.

For the day, Riley (11-8) allowed just one run on five hits with 12 strikeouts from the mound, while at the plate, she finished two-of-six with five RBIs, including the ninth home run of her career in the second game, which also ties the all-time Swarthmore mark. Read the rest of this entry »

Nichamin Leads Swat Golf to First-Place Finish at Philadelphia University Tri-Match

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA- Sophomore Alex Nichamin tied for first place with a 79 while sophomore Paul Weston wasn't far behind, finishing in third place with an 80 to lead the Swarthmore College golf team to a first-place finish at the Philadelphia University Tri-Match at the ACE Club from Lafayette Hill on Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Garnet lead the way with a 331, besting host Philadelphia University (344) and Caldwell College (371).

Freshman Kyle Krainock took third for the Garnet with an 85, while sophomore Alex Leitcher was fourth with an 89.

The Garnet will play in their final match before the Centennial Conference Championship this Monday with the Widener Invitational.

No. 2 Gettysburg Defeats Garnet Lax 19-3

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior Tyler Bradshaw scored his 30th and 31st goals of the 2010 season, but it wasn't enough to handle a powerful Gettysburg offense, as the No. 2 Bullets handled the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team 19-3 on Saturday evening from the Battlefield.

Walk Off By Cameron Sends Swat Baseball To Centennial Conference Playoffs

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - What seemed like a dream just a few years ago is now a reality; The Swarthmore College baseball team is going to the Centennial Conference playoffs.

Sophomore Mike Cameron's double to deep centerfield brought home the game-winning run as the Swarthmore College baseball team (18-12, 10-6) rallied from down 7-4 in the ninth inning to defeat Franklin & Marshall 8-7 in the second game of the doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

In the first game of the doubleheader, senior Jimmy Gill and sophomore Spencer Ross  each hit three-run home runs to lead a huge offensive stand as the Garnet would leave the Dips in dust with the 18-5 win. Starting pitcher junior Neil Mejia went the distance, striking out seven batters.

The victories send the  Garnet to the Centennial Conference playoffs for the first time in program history. Read the rest of this entry »

Riley Shines on Senior Day as Swat Softball Sweeps F&M 6-0 and 9-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - It was a Senior Day to remember for senior Kathryn Riley, as the hurler tossed two complete-game shutouts - including a season-best 12 strikeout performance in the first game - while pounding out five hits at the plate as the Swarthmore College softball team (15-17, 7-5)  swept visiting Franklin & Marshall 6-0 and 9-0 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

The outstanding performances from Riley on the mound and at the plate set the senior up for a record-breaking Sunday doubleheader vs. Washington; with her 20 strikeouts on the day, Riley is just six away from 500 for her career, while her four hits on Saturday moved her into a first-place tie for most career hits in program history (157).
