GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Down 10 points late in the second half, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (4-7, 1-5) stormed all the way back and had a chance to tie homestanding Gettysburg on its final possession, but three-point attempts from freshman Eliza Polli  and junior Ceylan Bodur rimmed out as time expired,  and the undefeated Bullets (11-0, 6-0) hung on to defeat the Garnet 51-48 on Wednesday evening. Kevin Friedenberg Named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Honorable Mention

BALTIMORE - Senior goalie Kevin Friedenberg of the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team has been named preseason All-America Honorable Mention by InsideLacorsse, the organization announced recently.

Friedenberg, a senior captain from Needberg, Massachusetts was one of the top goalies in the Centennial Conference in 2009, sporting a conference-best 7.12 goal-against average and conference-second best  .625 save percentage while earning All-Centennial honors.

The Garnet open the 2010 season on February 27, when it hosts Eastern from Clothier Field Stadium.

Stockbower Leads Swarthmore Past Catholic 65-57 To Claim Championship

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Kathryn Stockbower led all scorers with 26 points, while freshman Madeline Ross (11 points) and junior Ceylan Bodur (10 points) also scored in double figures as the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (3-6, 1-4)  blasted York College (N.Y.) 79-39 on Sunday evening in the opening round of the Catholic University Tournament from the DuFour Center.

Offense Comes to Life as Garnet Defeats Drew 76-69

LEXINGTON, Va. - What a difference a day makes.

Just 24 hours after the Swarthmore men's basketball team struggled to find any rhythm in its first game in 24 days - shooting just 28 percent and going 1-of-17 from behind the arc - the Garnet came to life against Drew University, with the Swat offense connecting on a season-high 10 three-pointers and the defense forcing 17 turnovers as the Garnet (2-8, 1-2) defeated the Rangers 76-69 on Sunday afternoon to capture the consolation title at the Washington & Lee Tournament.

Freshman Will Gates scored 29 points - behind four three-pointers - while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds to lead a balanced Swat scoring attack. Senior Danny Walker and junior Ryan Carmichael each scored 12 points, while freshman Jordan Martinez scored 10 points and recorded five rebounds and four assists. Generals Drop the Garnet 59-48 in Washington & Lee Tournament Opener

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Swarthmore men's basketball team made its way back onto the the court after a 24-day break from action in the Washington and Lee Tournament in Lexington, Virginia.  Swarthmore senior Danny Walker and junior Ryan Carmichael each netted 14 points against host Washington and Lee (7-2, 1-1), but the Garnet (1-8, 1-2) still fell to the Generals 59-48 in the tournament opener.
