Hot-Shooting Bullets Defeat Garnet 80-63

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Five different Gettysburg players scored in double figures to pace a potent offense that shot 56 percent from the field, as the Bullets defeated the Swarthmore College men's basketball team  80-63  in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Will Gates led the Garnet (2-9, 1-3) with 17 points and six rebounds, while junior Ryan Carmichael scored a season-high 15 points in the loss.

Gettysburg's Alex Zurn and Brendan Hager each scored 16 points, while Kevin Kennedy scored 15 points for the hot-shooting Bullets (5-5, 3-1), who also connected on 8-of-16 three-pointers for the game.

After a close first 10 minutes of play, the Bullets offense came to life mid-way through the first half, as Zurn scored 7 points as part of a 9-0 Bullet run, making it a 22-12 game with 9:42 left in the first half. The Bullets would maintain that lead for the remainder of the first half, heading into the locker room with a 33-22 lead.

The Garnet made a run early in the second half, cutting the lead to eight points at 44-36 thanks to a Matt Allen three-pointer with 17:20 remaining, but that was as close as Swat would get. Gettysburg responded with a quick 9-0 run and would build the lead up to as many as 19 points en route to the 80-63 win.

The Garnet finished with game with nine steals, with Gates and sophomore Marc Rogalski each recording two.

Swarthmore returns to action on Saturday when it hosts No. 13 Franklin & Marshall. Action is slated to begin 3:00 p.m.
