CARLISLE, Pa. - A solid performance from senior Kathryn Riley on the mound and another superb day at the plate from freshman Danielle Seltzer (two hits, two RBIs) helped the Swarthmore College softball team (8-12, 1-1) take the first game of its Centennial Conference opening twinbill with Dickinson 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. Despite another outstanding pitching performance from Riley (2-4) in the second game, the Garnet lost to Red Devils in game two 1-0 - thanks to a two-out RBI triple from Dickinson's  Alesha Sisco in the sixth inning.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team's best start in recent memory just keeps getting better.

Junior Neil Mejia (3-1) and freshman Dylan Jensen (2-1) each provided quality starts from the mound and the Garnet offense pounded out 30 hits and 27 runs on the day, as Swat swept McDaniel 16-5 and 11-6 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

Swarthmore (11-6) has now won eight consecutive games - the program's longest winning streak since a 10-game  streak in 1985. The Garnet is also 3-0 in Centennial Conference play for the first time in program history. Read the rest of this entry »

SAN ANTONIO-Swarthmore swimmer Travis Pollen ’12 opened up the US Paralympic Nationals in San Antonio by qualifying for finals in three events, all with personal best times.  Pollen, who is an above-knee amputee, is competing in the S9 class in the meet.  In preliminaries this morning he placed 5^th in the 100 meter backstroke (1:15.12), 3^rd in the 200 IM (2:44.6), and is the top overall seed in his class in the 50 freestyle (28.47).  He will swim in finals later today.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Today's scheduled Centennial Conference game between the Swarthmore College baseball team and Muhlenberg has been postponed until Sunday, March 28 at noon from historic Limeport Stadium.

Subsequently, the Garnet's  scheduled Sunday home game against Penn-State Brandywine from Clothier Field has been cancelled. Read the rest of this entry »

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Visiting Widener scored two runs with two outs in the top of the eighth inning thanks in part to an  error in the outfield, as the Pride rallied to defeat the Swarthmore College softball team 6-4 in the second game of the doubleheader, completing a two-game sweep on Thursday afternoon from the College. The Pride took the first game 11-0 in five innings.

Junior Krista Scheirer's home run to lead off the sixth inning of the second game - her second in as many days  - tied the game at 4-4 for Swarthmore (7-11), but the Garnet could never quite get past the pesky Pride (11-3) -  partly because of a defensive performance that was hampered by four errors and five unearned runs. CHESTER, Pa. - Sophomore second baseman Mike Waterhouse hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to break an 8-8 tie,  leading the Swarthmore College baseball team (9-6, 1-0) to a thrilling 11-8 victory over Widener on Wednesday afternoon.
