Stockbower, Bodur Named All-Centennial

LANCASTER, Pa. – Juniors Kathryn Stockbower and Ceylan Bodur of the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team have been named to the All-Centennial team, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. Stockbower is a first-team selection while Bodur is honorable mention.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Kathryn Stockbower ’11 of Swarthmore College has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America women’s basketball team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday morning. Stockbower is a third-team selection in the College Division and the lone representative from the Centennial Conference.

Borbee, Exeter Featured in Centennial Conference Preseason Coaches Chats

LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College women’s lacrosse head coach Karen Borbee and baseball head coach Stan Exeter will be featured in upcoming Centennial Conference Preseason Interactive Coaches Chats, scheduled for Tuesday (women’s lax) and Thursday (baseball). Borbee is scheduled to take part in women’s lacrosse chat – which starts at 1:30 – beginning at 2:40, while Exeter can also found at 2:40 on Thursday’s baseball chat.

Garnet Men Take Second at Centennial Championships; Miller Strikes Gold With NCAA Time

LANCASTER, Pa. – On the final day of the Centennial Conference Championships, the Swarthmore College men’s swim team held on for a decisive second-place team finish with 732 points, 113 points behind host and champion Franklin & Marshall on Sunday evening from Lancaster.

On the women’s side, it was senior Anne Miller who stole the show once again for the Garnet, taking home a gold medal by clocking in with an NCAA A-cut time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.14). As a team, the Garnet women finished in fifth place with 407 points.

Swimmer Travis Pollen Breaks American Paralympic Record in 100 Freestyle

LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College men’s swimmer Travis Pollen ’12 broke the paralympic S9 American record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.80 while competing for the Garnet at the Centennial Conference Championships on Sunday evening from Franklin & Marshall College.

Garnet Men Keep Pace at Day Two of Centennial Championships; Miller Takes Home Silver

LANCASTER, Pa. – It’s Day Two of the Centennial Conference championships, and the Swarthmore College men’s swimming teams is still within striking distance of a team championship.

Thanks in part to the strong swimming of junior Sterling Satterfield (2 bronze), sophomore Sam Bullard-Sisken (2 bronze) and freshman Tyler Hanson (1 silver) on Saturday evening from Franklin & Marshall, the men’s team finds itself in second place with 504 points, closely trailing F&M’s 570 points.

On the women’s side, it was senior Anne Miller stealing the spotlight once again, taking second place in the 100-yard butterfly (57.40) in a personal best and NCAA B-cut time.

Garnet Rout NYU in Season Opener 9-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore men’s tennis team (1-1) won its season opener in dominating fashion on Saturday night shutting out NYU 9-0 in the Mullan Center. Sophomore Zak Kelm led the Garnet in the number one singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Haverford Knocks Off Garnet Men 71-48 in Season Finale

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Visiting Haverford (11-13, 9-9) used big runs at the end of the first half and beginning of the second to break open a tight game with the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team (7-18, 6-12), as the Garnet fell to the Fords 71-48 on Senior Day from Tarble Pavilion.

Freshman Will Gates capped one of the best freshman campaigns in program history by leading all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Gates finishes the season averaging 16.1 ppg, the second-best scoring average for a freshman in Centennial Conference history.

Wallwork and Company Knock Off NYU in Season Opener 5-4

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (1-0) defeated NYU (0-3) 5-4 in its spring season opener on Saturday afternoon from the Mullan Center. Senior Rachel Wallwork paced the Garnet in singles action with an easy 6-3 and 7-5 victory to start the match.

Garnet Women Close Out Season With 63-50 Win Over Haverford

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The juniors stole the show on Senior Day for the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team (12-13, 9-11), as junior Ceylan Bodur and Kathryn Stockbower combined to score 42 of the Garnet’s 63 points, as Swat used a huge second-half run to defeat visiting Haverford 63-50 on Saturday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion.

Bodur finished with 25 points while shooting 10-of-19, while All-American candidate Stockower scored 17 and pulled down 12 rebounds to record to 64th double-double of her career.
