Garnet Men Keep Pace at Day Two of Centennial Championships; Miller Takes Home Silver

LANCASTER, Pa. - It's Day Two of the Centennial Conference championships, and the Swarthmore College men's swimming teams is still within striking distance of a team championship.

Thanks in part to the strong swimming of junior Sterling Satterfield (2 bronze), sophomore Sam Bullard-Sisken (2 bronze) and  freshman Tyler Hanson (1 silver) on Saturday evening from  Franklin & Marshall, the men's team finds itself in second place with 504 points, closely trailing F&M's 570 points.

On the women's side, it was senior Anne Miller stealing the spotlight once again, taking second place in the 100-yard butterfly (57.40) in a personal best and NCAA B-cut time.

Hanson's time was good enough for Swarthmore's second all-time best.

As a team, the  Garnet women moved  up to the fifth spot with 272 points, only one point behind Ursinus for the fourth spot.

On the men's side, freshman Hanson eanred the best individual finish, earning a silver medal and  the  second best time in Swarthmore history in the 400-yard IM ( 4:15.48).

Unlike Day One of competition, the Garnet men captured five top three finishes across four different events on Day Two.  In the 400 IM, the freshman trio of Hanson, Charles Hepper (4:16.87) and Daniel Duncan (4:18.7) went two-three-four to make up some ground on the Diplomats.

The Garnet 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Roger Chin, Satterfield, Bullard-Sisken and sophomore Tim Brevart put the men into the winning mentality in the finals with its third-place finish in 1:37.97

Satterfield landed another top three spot in the 100-yard breaststroke touching the wall in third with a time of 59.88, only four tenths from the second place spot.

The final top three finish of the day for Swarthmore was Bullard-Sisken as he his second bronze of the day with time of  53.49  in the

Miller took home her first medal of the competition and her second NCAA B-cut time of the season.

The Garnet women climbed a spot in the rankings behind a strong race from Miller in the 100-yard butterfly.  Her time of 57.40 was not only good enough for a second place finish but was also an NCAA B-cut time.

Freshman Hannah Gotwals finished closely behind Miller in the 100-yard fly for fourth place finish with a time of 59.66.

The Garnet relay teams added come crucial points for the Garnet in the 200-yard medley relay with a fifth place finish (1:54.26)and in the the 800-yard freestyle relay with a fourth place finish (8:05.57).

Both the men's and women's team will compete on Sunday February 21st for the final day of the Centennial Conference Championships.   Preliminary swimming begins at 10:00 AM and finals are scheduled for 7:00 AM.
