Garnet Rout NYU in Season Opener 9-0
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore men's tennis team (1-1) won its spring season opener in dominating fashion on Saturday night, shutting out NYU 9-0 in the Mullan Center.
Sophomore Zak Kelm led the Garnet in the number one singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over NYU's Jason Sacher.Kelm also combined with sophomore Steven Youngblood to pull out a close No. 1 doubles win over NYU's combo of Matt Gross and AlexStoler, 5-4.
Youngblood easily won in No.2 singles, topping NYU's Alex Zara 6-1, 6-3.
In No.3 singles, it was junior Mark Wee getting into the action, defeating NYU's Eugene Tsarevskiy 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Max Bressmen rolled in No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Matt Gross.
Finally in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, the freshman took the spotlight; Malik Mubeen picked his first srping win, defeating NYU's P.J. Marranca 6-2, 6-4, while Seth Udelson had to work hard, but he earned a 6-2, 4-6 (10-4) win over Alex Stoler.
The Garnet return to the courts on Saturday, March 6 when it opens spring break with a trip to N.C. Weslyan.
