Garnet Women Close Out Season With 63-50 Win Over Haverford
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The juniors stole the show on Senior Day for the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (12-13, 9-11), as junior Ceylan Bodur and Kathryn Stockbower combined to score 42 of the Garnet's 63 points, as Swat used a huge second-half run to defeat visiting Haverford 63-50 on Saturday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion.
Bodur finished with 25 points while shooting 10-of-19, while All-American candidate Stockbower scored 17 and pulled down 12 rebounds to record to 64th double-double of her career.
Down 29-26 heading into the second half, the Garnet put together possibly its best 10-minute stretch of the season to take control of the game, outscoring Haverford 15-2 during the first 10 minutes of the half. Swat took it to the Fords on both the offensive and defensive ends in the second half; the Swat defense held the Fords to six turnovers and just 1-of-20 shooting during the first 10 minutes of the second half, while the offense shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the field. Bodur was the catalyst for the Swat offense, scoring nine of Swat's 15 points during the decisive run.
The Garnet have now won six consecutive games against the Fords and lead the all-time series 44-14.
The win marked the final game in the careers of seniors Pam Costello and Lisa Schumacher.
With her 12 rebounds, Stockbower moved in second place on the College's all-time rebound list (1,013).
Swat benefited from Haverford mistakes all game long, outscoring the Fords 21-14 in points off turnovers.
For Haverford, Nina Voith - who leads the Centennial Conference in scoring - led the Fords with 23 points - 14 of which came in the first half.
The Garnet finish the season at 12-13 (9-11).
