Wallwork and Company Knock Off NYU in Season Opener 5-4
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (1-0) defeated NYU (0-3) 5-4 in its spring season opener on Saturday afternoon from the Mullan Center. Senior Rachel Wallwork paced the Garnet in singles action with an easy 6-3, 7-5 victory to start the match.
Wallwork led the Garnet with a singles and doubles victory.
After Wallwork started out her senior campaign with a win, the momentum continued in Swarthmore's favor as sophomore Rosie DuBrin and freshman Stephanie Chia also claimed victory to sew up the win for the Garnet. DuBrin defeated NYU's Flora Lee in a three set battle 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Chia made quick work of NYU's Lisa Mijovic taking her down in straight sets 6-0 and 6-3.
In doubles action Wallwork and freshman Emily Rosenblum got Swarthmore on the right track with a 5-2 victory. DuBrin and Chia continued their dominance on the court with a tight 9-8 (5) victory.
The Garnet return to action on Saturday February 27 when it hosts Oberlin at the Mullan Center. Play is slated to begin at 1 PM.
