Garnet Women Open Fall Season With Swarthmore Invitational

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Luann Cignavitch, sophomore Stephanie Chia and freshmen Brooke Wilkins and Epiphany English all picked up singles wins for the Swarthmore College women's tennis team, as the Garnet opened the Fall season  by hosting  the Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

Cignavitch, posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over NYU's Liz Feldman on the first day of play, while English and Wilkins, both class of 2014, made a strong play for the future of Garnet tennis, earning wins 6-2, 6-0 and a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 over opponents from NYU respectively.  Sophomore Chia garnered a 6-2, 6-1 victory over NYU's Alexa Wimes on Sunday morning.

On the doubles side, Swarthmore reached the semifinals of both Flights A and B, with the Flight A team of Emily Rosenblum and Lia Carlson posting an 8-6 win over NYU before falling 8-2 to Johns Hopkins.  Flight B pair of freshman Aliya Padamsee and Wilkins defeated NYU by an 8-3 score before taking an 8-2 loss to Delaware.

The two-day home tournament wraps up the Garnet’s  fall season until ITA Fall Regionals pick up the weekend of September 26.
