Swat Tennis Advances to Centennial Finals with 5-2 Win Over Dickinson

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (12-4) is on its way to the Centennial Conference championship match, as the No. 2 seed Garnet defeated No. 3 Dickinson 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts at the College.

After taking a 2-1 advantage in doubles play, Swat sealed the match thanks to freshman Emily Rosenblum's tough 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory at No. 3 singles over Dickinson's Sarah Woodward.

With the victory, the Garnet will now travel to Baltimore to take on top seed Johns Hopkins for the Centennial title and automatic spot in the NCAA Championships. Action is slated to begin 11:00 a.m.

DuBrin helped the Garnet win at No. 3 singles.

Senior Rachel Wallwork - recently named the Centennial Conference Performer of the Year for the third consecutive season -continued her mastery of the Centennial, besting Dickinson's Alysia Rodgers 6-1,6-1. Freshman Kelsey Johnson was also victorious for the Garnet at No. 4 singles 6-, 6-3 before Swat clinched the match.

In doubles, Swarthmore took the early lead, as the All-Conference combo of Wallwork and Rosenblum won from No. 1 8-5, while sophomore Rosie DuBrin and junior Alexis Hickman won No. 3 doubles 8-5 over DC's Alex Bybel/Carla Cox.

Swarthmore will be aiming to win its fifth Centennial Conference championship and first since 2006 - Johns Hopkins has won all four titles since then.
