CAPE COD, Mass. – Senior Julia Luongo of the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team has been named an ECAC South Division III second team all-star, the organization announced recently.

LANCASTER, Pa. – Six Swarthmore student-athletes were named to the fall All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team today. The Centennial’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee created the team to emphasize sportsmanship within the Conference. All institutions elected one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-Centennial team.

ALTOONA, Pa. – Junior Kirsten Peterson netted the game-winning goal in the 56th minute to lead the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team to its third consecutive ECAC South Region Championship, defeating PSU-Behrend 1-0 on Sunday afternoon from Altoona. The Garnet end the season with the three-peat and a 16-4-1 record.

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Garnet women continued their ECAC dominance on Saturday afternoon defeating the Stevenson Mustangs 1-0 with a perfectly placed goal to the top left corner by senior Julia Luongo from 25 yards out. The win advances Swarthmore to its third straight ECAC Tournament championship game on Sunday.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A flurry of three goals over a nine-minute span was more than enough as the No. 3 seed Swarthmore College women’s soccer team defeated No. 6 Centenary 3-0 in the first round of the ECAC Division III South Region Championships from Clothier Field Stadium on Wednesday evening. Junior Kirsten Peterson and seniors Maggie DeLorme and Taylor Rhodes all scored for the Garnet (14-4-1), who now move on to the semifinals to face No. 2 Stevenson – a 3-2 (OT) winner over No. 7 Moravian earlier in the day.

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore women’s soccer team had six student-athletes named to the All-Centennial team, as announced Tuesday. Junior Megan Colombo and senior Julia Luongo were named to the first team, while junior Laura Bolger and freshman Alexa Ross were selected to the second team and senior Maggie DeLorme and sophomore Marie Mutryn were honorable mention.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women’s soccer team and volleyball team have been selected to participate in the 2009 ECAC Division III South Championships, the organization announced on Monday. The women’s soccer team (13-4-1) – the two-time ECAC Champions – are the No. 3 seed and will host Centenary (N.J) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. from Clothier Field Stadium, while the volleyball team is a No. 6 seed and will play at No. 3 Widener on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Centennial Conference playoff run for the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team (13-4-1) ended in heartbreaking fashion as No. 5 seed Dickinson (14-3-1) advanced past the No. 4 seed Garnet 5-4 (1-1) on penalty kicks Wednesday evening from Clothier Field Stadium. Tied 1-1 after 110 minutes, the Red Devils and Garnet saw the first nine shots of the penalty kick shootout find the back of the net until Swarthmore senior Julia Luongo’s shot was stopped by a fantastic save from Dickinson goalkeeper Kailyn Hartmann on the 10th and final shot to end the game.
