Garnet Women to Celebrate Youth Soccer Month

SWARTHMORE, Pa. The Swarthmore College women’s soccer team would like to invite all local girls soccer players and teams to our 5th Annual Youth Soccer Month celebration. This year’s main event will take place on Friday September 3rd at 7:00pm when the Garnet face off in the Swat Kick Classic against Baptist Bible.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Garnet fans have spoken: The third consecutive ECAC Championship for the women’s soccer team has been voted the best Swarthmore Athletics moment of 2009-10. The event captured an impressive 39% of the vote in the final poll, besting the men’s soccer team’s run to the NCAA Sweet 16 (28%) and men’s swimmer Travis Pollen’s national championship (19%). Over the course of 30 days, Swarthmore fans placed nearly 2,000 votes in two seperate polls to determine a winner.

After nearly to 1,000 votes, it’s down to the final five for the best Swarthmore Athletics moment of 2009-10: Travis Pollen’s national championship, the men’s soccer team’s thrilling NCAA win, the women’s soccer team’s third-consecutive ECAC Championship, baseball’s late-inning win over F&M and men’s basketball’s upset win over Ursinus. Voting will end on June 30, with the winner announced on July 1. Just one vote per moment in this final poll.

Make Your Voice Heard: Vote For The Top Swarthmore Athletics Moment of 2009-10

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It certainly was a year to remember for Swarthmore Athletics: seven playoff teams, three All-Americans, 11 first-team Centennial Conference members, six Centennial gold medalists and one national champion and American record holder. With the 2009-10 season officially in the rear view, the Swarthmore College Department of Athletics has decided to let the fans vote on the top Swarthmore Athletics moment of the past year.

Throughout the month of June, fans will be able to vote for their favorite Swarthmore moments via the poll at the bottom of the page. Lasting from June 2 to June 15, the current poll features 12 of top moments from the 2009-10 season selected by the Swarthmore Department of Athletics. On June 16, the list of 12 will be narrowed down to five, with the five events receiving the most votes moving to a final poll, which will last from June 16 to June 30. On July 1, the top Swarthmore Athletics event of the 2009-10 season will be announced.

Garnet Soccer Teams Host Haiti Earthquake Relief Clinic

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men’s and women’s soccer programs collaborated to host the Haiti Earthquake Relief Clinic on Saturday, March 20th at the College’s Clothier Field Stadium. The idea for the clinic, conceived by the two teams in order to benefit the victims of the January 12th Haiti Earthquake, was inspired in part by junior Philippe Celestin, a Swarthmore soccer player of Haitian descent. The clinic was a student-athlete-organized venture, with over 30 men’s and women’s players contributing to its organization and execution.

Four Swarthmore Student-Athletes Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area

PHILADELPHIA — Swarthmore College student-athletes David D’Annunzio ’12 (men’s soccer), Gina Grubb ’10 (field hockey), Julia Luongo ’10 (women’s soccer) and Brett McLarney ’12 (men’s soccer) have all been selected as Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Stars for their respective sports, the paper announced on Sunday.

Colombo, Luongo Named to NSCAA All-Region Teams

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Junior Megan Colombo and senior Julia Luongo of the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team have both been named NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic Region Selections, the organization announced on Monday. Colombo is a second-team selection while Luongo appears on the third team.
