Softball Falls to Dickinson 1-0, Faces Ursinus in Elimination Game

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - For the second straight game, the Garnet received a gem on the mound from Riley.  But the pitching of No. 4 Dickinson kept the Garnet at bay all afternoon as Swarthmore fell to the Red Devils 1-0.

With the loss, the Garnet drop into the loser's bracket of the 2010 Centennial Conference Softball Tournament and will face No.1  Ursinus on Sunday morning at 10AM from Collegeville.

Riley allowed just one run over two games.

With the Garnet playing as the home team against the Red Devils, who had defeated the host Bears in the opening round of the tournament, Swarthmore outhit Dickinson 6-5 but couldn’t plate a run.

After Liz Barry went 3 1/3 for the Red Devils, second-team All-Centennial pitcher Allison Jordan pitched 3 2/3 of no-hit softball to close out the game.

The Red Devils scored the lone run of the game with three consecutive singles in the top of the fourth inning.  The Garnet responded by loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, but junior Kira Kern popped up to end the threat.  The Garnet did not have a base-runner over the final three innings.

Swarthmore faces host Ursinus in an elimination game tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m. from Collegeville.
