Riley No-Hitter Propels Garnet into Centennial Conference Championship Round
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Senior Kathryn Riley threw her second no-hitter of the year to give the Swarthmore College softball team a 1-0 win over top-seed and host Ursinus, sending the Garnet into the Centennial Conference championship round.
Riley's no-hitter is only the second in Centennial Conference playoff history and fourth of her career.
The Garnet kept its championship hopes alive scoring a run in the top of the third inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of freshman Kate Smayda. Smayda had another stellar game at the plate, going three-for-four with an RBI.
Freshman Erin Curtis sparked the offense with a single to center field and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Curtis would also score Swarthmore's lone run in the game.
Riley picked up her 16th win and fanned three batters in the game.
