Garnet Softball Wins Playoff Opener Over Gettysburg, 4-0
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - A stellar pitching performance from senior Kathryn Riley highlighted the Swarthmore Garnet's (20-21, 11-6 CC) 4-0 victory over Gettysburg (21-15-1, 11-6 CC) in the opener of the 2010 Centennial Conference Softball Tournament.
Riley finished with 10 strikeouts in the complete game victory and the #3 Garnet scored one run in the fourth and three in the fifth to secure the victory over the #2 Bullets. Freshman Katherine Smayda delivered the big blow in the fifth, a two RBI triple to right-center to make the score 3-0.
Swarthmore will return to actoin in Game Four of the Centennial Conference Tournament later this afternoon from Ursinus College. That game is scheduled for 4PM.
