Garnet Track Teams Compete at Penn Relays, Haverford Midweek

PHILADELPHIA – Competing against schools from the Centennial and MAC conferences, the Swarthmore College women’s track & field 4×400 team – consisting of sophomore Kenyetta Givans, freshman Rebecca Hammond, sophomore Margret Lenfest, and senior Erin Ronhovde – took fourth place with a time of 4:06.59 from the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Thursday evening.

Strong Pitching Gives No. 20 Rowan Sweep of Swat Softball, 5-0 and 2-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – No. 20 Rowan used two strong pitching performances – including a five-inning no-hitter from starting pitcher Jamie Minix in Game 2 – as the Profs swept the Swarthmore College softball team 5-0 and 2-0 on Thursday evening from Clothier Field.

Despite the losses, it wasn’t all bad news for the Garnet (18-20, 9-5), as the team clinched a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs due to Ursinus’ sweep of Haverford.

Second-Half Run Lifts Haverford Past Garnet Lax 13-6

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Amy Vachal and sophomore Marie Mutryn each scored two goals, but homestanding Haverford used a 7-1 second-half run to break open a close game, defeating the Swarthmore College women’s lacrosse team 13-6 on Wednesday evening.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (10-4, 8-1 CC) clinched a Centennial Conference playoff berth with a resounding 8-1 rout of Haverford College (8-6, 7-2 CC) on Wednesday evening in the Mullan Center.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The DeSales Bulldogs (19-12) hit their way past the Swarthmore College baseball team (18-4) on Tuesday afternoon as the Garnet would fall 16-4 in the non-conference match-up at Butz Field.

Garnet Tennis Rallies to Defeat Haverford 6-3, Clinch Spot in Centennial Playoffs

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Visiting Haverford took a 2-1 lead following doubles play, but the Swarthmore College men’s tennis team stormed back, sweeping singles 2-through-6 to overtake the Fords 6-3 from the Faulkner Courts on Tuesday evening.

The victory clinches the Garnet (8-9, 7-1) a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament.

Seltzer Powers Garnet to Split With Immaculata

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Freshman Danielle Seltzer slammed a pair of home runs, while senior pitcher Kathryn Riley tossed a one-hit, six-strikeout gem from the mound as the Swarthmore College softball team (18-18, 9-5) defeated visiting Immaculata 8-0 in five innings in the first game of the doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon from the College. The Mighty Macs won the second game 5-2.

Swat Golf Victorious At Widener Invitational

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Swarthmore College golf team fought through 25 mile per hour wind gusts on Monday afternoon to win the Widener Invitational with a low score of 309, finishing ahead of Cabrini College (322). The win gives the Garnet golf team its third straight tournament victory and fifth of the season.

The Garnet also sealed another victory over Widener in the 320 Challenge as Swat would beat out the Pride by 24 strokes.

Riley, Gill Earn Centennial Conference Player of the Week Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior pitcher Kathryn Riley of the Swarthmore College softball team and senior rightfielder Jimmy Gill of the Swarthmore baseball team have been selected as the Centennial Conference pitcher and hitter of the week for their respective sports, the Conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Riley Makes History In Swat Softball Sweep of Washington, 2-1 and 8-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It was a record-setting day for senior Kathryn Riley, as she picked up her 500th career strikeout in the sixth inning of the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader with Washington, while in the second game, she became Swarthmore’s all-time hits leader with a double to left field, helping Swat (17-17, 9-5) earn a crucial Centennial Conference sweep of the Shorewomen 2-1 and 8-0.

For the day, Riley allowed just one run on five hits from the mound, while at the plate, she finished two-of-six with five RBI, including the ninth home run of her career, which also ties the all-time Swarthmore mark.
