Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior Amy Vachal and sophomore Marie Mutryn each scored two goals, but homestanding Haverford used a 7-1 second-half  run to break open a close game, defeating the Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team 13-6 on Wednesday evening.

Grein made 13 saves in the loss to the Fords.

Down 4-1 late in the first half on the cold and rainy night, Swat (7-8, 1-7) rallied late in the first half, cutting the lead to 5-3 at intermission thanks to a goal from senior Abbe Muller with 5:40 left in the first half.

The Garnet then cut lead to one goal, as Mutryn's second goal of the game exactly two minutes into the second half made it a 5-4 game, placing all of the momentum into Swat's corner.

But just when it looked as if the Garnet were primed for the big upset, the Fords would score five unanswered goals over a nine-minute stretch in the second half, extending the lead to 10-4 with 14:25 left in the game.

In goal for the Garnet, senior Allison Grein had a strong effort in defeat, making 13 saves.

Freshman Beth Martin also found the back of the net for Swarthmore.

Nora Proops led the way for Haverford with a game-high four goals while Norrin Downing and Alexa Pesce added three goals apiece.

With the victory, the Fords clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs.

Swarthmore closes out the season with Senior Day against Dickinson on Saturday beginning at noon.
