Late Widener Goal Hands Field Hockey First Loss of the Season, 2-1

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener’s Brittany Creighton scored her second goal of the game in the 67th minute of play, breaking a 1-1 tie to give the Pride a 2-1 victory over the Swarthmore College field hockey team (2-1) on Saturday afternoon.

The loss is the Garnet’s first of the 2010 season.

Garnet Field Hockey Delivers in the Clutch, Defeats Richard Stockton 2-1 in Penalty Strokes

POMONA, N.J. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team finished 4-for-4 in penalty strokes following two scoreless overtime periods, as the Garnet (2-0) prevailed over homestanding Richard Stockton 2-1 (2 OT) on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Catie Meador, sophomore Julia Tallarico , senior Devon Novotnak and finally senior Sophia Ferguson all converted their penalty strokes following the second overtime period while the Osprey could only connect on 1-of-4, leaving the Garnet with the thrilling victory.

With the win, Swarthmore is 2-0 for the first time since 2006.

Ferguson, Ranshous Earn Centennial Conference Player of the Week Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team took home both the Centennial Conference offensive and defensive player of the week awards, the Conference announced Monday. Senior forward Sophia Ferguson took the offensive honor, while sophomore defender Alison Ranshous claimed the defensive award.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Sophia Ferguson scored three times and recorded an assist while sophomores Taryn Colonnese and Sophia Agathis each added a goal as the Swarthmore Garnet field hockey (1-0) team defeated the Immaculata Mighty Macs ((0-2) 5-0 in their first game of the season on Saturday morning at Clothier Field.

Swarthmore Athletes Named to the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team

LANCASTER, Pa. – Six Swarthmore student-athletes were named to the fall All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team today. The Centennial’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee created the team to emphasize sportsmanship within the Conference. All institutions elected one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-Centennial team.

Franklin & Marshall Rallies to Defeat Field Hockey 4-2 on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It was a bittersweet ending to the Swarthmore College field hockey team’s home season, as Franklin & Marshall – needing a win to make the Centennial Conference playoffs – rallied for three goals in the second half to defeat the Garnet 4-2 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field Stadium. Freshman Sophia Agathis and junior captain Sophia Ferguson scored first-half goals while senior Gina Grubb made it a Senior Day to remember by recording a career-high 17 saves.
