BOX SCORE

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener's Brittany Creighton scored her second goal of the game in the 67th minute of play, breaking a 1-1 tie to give the Pride a 2-1 victory over the Swarthmore College field hockey team (2-1) on Saturday afternoon.

The loss is the Garnet's first of the 2010 season.

Jones scored her first-career goal in the loss.

Creighton got the Pride on the board just minutes after the opening whistle, scoring in the fourth minute to give Widener the early 1-0 lead.

But Swarthmore answered quickly, as freshman Nia Jones scored her first collegiate goal in the 10th minute, knotting the score at 1-1. Jones' goal was assisted by senior Sophia Ferguson and fellow first-year Aarti Rao.

The game would remain deadlocked for the next 57 minutes of play, until Creighton scored her second goal to win it for the Pride.

In goal for Swat, senior Katie Ashmore made five saves.

The Garnet will look to rebound from today's loss this  Tuesday as the team travels to Elizabethtown in a non-conference contest. Action is set to begin at 4:30 pm.
