Garnet Offense Stagnent as Mighty Macs Run Past Swarthmore 9-2

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Immaculata (1-5) pounded out nine runs on 12 hits while pitcher Aaron Dietrich held Swarthmore (3-6) to only two runs and six hits as the Garnet fell 9-2 in its home opener on Wednesday afternoon from Clothier Field.

Hubbard’s Big Day Not Enough as Bears Outlast Garnet Lax 8-7 (OT)

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore midfielder Max Hubbard netted a career-high four goals on just five shots, but an overtime goal from Ursinus’ Eric Farris, who scored three goals of his own, was the difference as the Bears rallied to defeat the Garnet 8-7 (OT) from Eleanor Frost Snell Field at Ursinus College.

Senior Tyler Bradshaw scored two goals – bringing his team-leading total to 10 – while adding an assist to lead the Garnet (1-3, 0-1). Freshman Wes Marick also found the back of the net, while Hubbard added three ground balls.

Stockbower Named D3Hoops First-Team All-Region, Second-Team ECAC All-Region

STERLING, Va. – Junior Kathryn Stockbower of the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team has been named to the D3Hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, the organization announced today.

The honor is just latest in a string of accolades for Stockbower (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin, Pa.), who in the past month has been named a finalist for the NCAA Division III State FarmĀ® Coaches’ All-America Team while earning First-Team All-Centennial Conference honors for the third consecutive season.

Softball Back to Winning Ways With Sweep of PSU-Abington

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A return to the friendly confines of Clothier Field was just what the Swarthmore College softball needed following a six-game Spring Break road trip, as the Garnet dispatched visiting Penn-State Abington 9-0 and 16-3 to sweep the doubleheader on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon from the College.

Freshman Kate Smayda had all-around outstanding performance for the Garnet, combining for three hits and four RBI at the plate while winning Game 2 on the mound for her first collegiate victory. Sophomore Liz Cushing and fellow freshman Danielle Seltzer each combined for the three hits and three RBI over the two games.

Garnet Sports Network Announces Live Video and Audio Schedule for Spring Season

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College Department of Athletics and the Garnet Sports Network has released the live video and audio schedule for the 2010 spring sports season. The network will provide free live video from Clothier Field and free audio from the Clothier baseball and softball fields, totalingover 40 Swarthmore athletic events during the spring season.

During the 2009 fall and winter sports seasons, the Garnet Sports Network attracted over 8,500 viewers from all 50 states and 16 countries around the globe.

Swat Golf Finishes Fifth in Wilmington University Spring Invitational

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Swarthmore College golf team earned a fifth place finish with a score of 307 in the Wilmington University Spring Golf Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The impressive season-opening score of 308 is just three strokes off of the all-time program low of 305.

Garnet Tennis Picks Up First Centennial Win, Earns Saturday Split

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A clean sweep of Centennial Conference rival Bryn Mawr highlighted a two-match day for the Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (3-2, 1-0), as the Garnet defeated the Owls 9-0, but opened the day with a 7-2 loss to No. 13 Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon from the Mullan Center.

Weather Affects Baseball, Golf Schedules

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Heavy rains across the region has forced the cancellation of upcoming Swarthmore College baseball and golf events. Sunday’s scheduled home baseball doubleheader against SUNY-IT has been cancelled, as well as the golf team’s home match against Neumann, Widener and La Salle scheduled for Monday.
