Field Hockey Opens Conference Play With 7-1 Rout of Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Junior Sara McCabe and freshman Kate Teleky each scored two goals as the Swarthmore College field hockey team (2-1, 1-0) opened up Centennial Conference play with a commanding 7-1 victory over rival Bryn Mawr. Junior captain Sophia Ferguson, junior Devon Novotnak and freshman Catie Meador each tallied a goal and assist for the Garnet. The victory is Swarthmore’s largest since defeating the College of Notre Dame (Md.) 11-0 back on September 9, 2006.

Three Members of Garnet Lacrosse Team Named to IWLCA Academic Squad

BOSTON – Marissa Schaffer ’09, Hannah Jaicks ’09, and Annie Carter ’09 of the Swarthmore women’s lacrosse team were named to the 2009 IWLCA Academic Squad, the organization announced earlier in the week.

Luongo Scores Two Second-Half Goals as No. 23 Swarthmore Beats Eastern 2-1

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Senior Julia Luongo scored two second-half goals as the No. 23 Swarthmore women’s soccer team rallied to beat Eastern 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Garnet (4-0) became the first team to defeat the Eagles at home since 2007.

Garnet Soccer Teams Move Up in National Rankings

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Both Swarthmore soccer teams opened the season with a 3-0 record and a tournament championship. Now, both teams are shaking up the national rankings.Both the Garnet men’s and women’s soccer teams made a splash in the most recent NSCAA Division III national rankings released on Tuesday afternoon, with the men moving up from No. 13 to No. 11 and the women entering the poll for the first time this season at No. 23.

Langley Brothers Help Propel Garnet to 4-1 Win Over Catholic University

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Down 1-0 early in the second half, the No. 13 Swarthmore men’s soccer team rallied behind arguably the best set of brothers in Division III soccer. Senior captain Dylan Langley scored two goals – including the equalizer – while junior Morgan Langley netted the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute, as the Garnet rallied to defeat Catholic University 4-1 in the final game of the 12th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic from Clothier Field Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Emily Coleman scored a goal and assisted on another by sophomore Hannah Deming as the Swarthmore women’s soccer team defeated Albright 2-0 to capture first place at the 14th Annual Swat Kick Classic from Clothier Field Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The victory extends the Garnet’s unbeaten streak in the Swat Kick Classic to eight games – dating back to 2005.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – In its first home contest of the season, the No. 13 Swarthmore men’s soccer team certainly gave the raucous crowd at Clothier Field Stadium something to cheer about.

Junior Morgan Langley recorded a goal and assist while sophomores Gage Newman and Fabian Castro each added first half goals as the Garnet topped Wesley College 3-0 in Swarthmore’s first game of 12th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic.

The victory extends the Garnet’s unbeaten streak in the Garnet Alumni Classic to 12 games, dating back to 2003.

Garnet Cruise to 6-1 Victory Over Baptist Bible at Swat Kick Classic

SWARTHMORE, Pa, – Senior Taylor Rhodes scored two goals, while senior Julia Luongo, junior Megan Colombo, junior Kirsten Peterson, and freshman Isabelle Newlin each contributed a goal as the Swarthmore women’s soccer team (2-0) completely overwhelmed visiting Bible Baptist 6-1 on Saturday afternoon from Clothier Field.

The victory continues the Garnet’s recent domination of the field in the Swat Kick Class. The 6-1 win against Baptist Bible ties the largest margin of victory for the Garnet in the Swat Kick Classic and extends the Garnet’s tournament winning streak to seven games, dating back to 2005.

Garnet Capture Second Place at Greyhound Premier

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Swarthmore volleyball took second place at Greyhound Premier after splitting a pair of games on Saturday afternoon, toppling host Moravian 3-1 but falling to conference-rival Franklin & Marshall 3-0. Sophomore Genny Pezzola and freshman Kathryn Montemurro were honored for their outstanding play all weekend with selections to the All-Tournament Team.
