Swarthmore to Compete for Hood Trophy, 320 Challenge
Swarthmore College will begin a new athletic challenge against one of its closest rivals, while continuing one of the longest standing competitions in all of Division III athletics.
The 2009-10 season marks the inaugural “320 Challenge” between Swarthmore and Widener, pitting the two schools in head-to-head match-ups of their 19 shared sports.
The schools, located just three miles apart, will compete in each of the sports with one point awarded to the winner and a 1/2 point given either for a tie or split series.
This year also marks the 68th season that Swarthmore and Haverford will battle it out for the Hood Trophy. Started in 1941 by Swarthmore alum Alfred Hood, the competition between the Centennial Conference rivals in 14 sports is always fiercely contested.
