Garnet Defeat Albright 2-0; Take First Place at Swat Kick Classic
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Emily Coleman scored a goal and assisted on another by sophomore Hannah Deming as the Swarthmore women’s soccer team defeated Albright 2-0 to capture first place at the 14th Annual Swat Kick Classic from Clothier Field Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The victory extends the Garnet’s unbeaten streak in the Swat Kick Classic to eight games - dating back to 2005.
Deming’s goal in the 50th minute from the right side of the box finally broke the ice for a Garnet offense that had been controlling possession and creating scoring opportunities all game long. Coleman sliced a perfect through ball past the Albright defense to find an unmarked Deming in the box, who knocked it home to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead.
In the 68th minute, Coleman got into scoring act herself, taking a cross from senior Taylor Rhodes and putting the ball into the back of the net, bringing the score to the 2-0 final.
In goal for the Garnet, sophomore Marie Mutryn recorded four saves.
The Garnet held a 21-6 advantage in shots and a 10-4 advantage on shots on goal.
Swarthmore returns to action on Tuesday, September 8, when it travels to Eastern University. Action is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
