ECAC Three-Peat Voted Best Swarthmore Athletics Moment of 2009-10
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Garnet fans have spoken: The third consecutive ECAC Championship for the women's soccer team has been voted the best Swarthmore Athletics moment of 2009-10. The event captured an impressive 39% of the vote in the final poll, besting the men's soccer team's run to the NCAA Sweet 16 (28%) and men's swimmer Travis Pollen's national championship (19%). Over the course of 30 days, Swarthmore fans cast nearly 2,000 votes in two seperate polls to determine a winner.
The Swarthmore baseball team's playoff-clinching win over F&M (11%) and the men's basketball team's upset of Ursinus (3%) rounded out the final poll.
The Garnet women's soccer team won its third consecutive ECAC South Region Championship by defeating PSU-Behrend 1-0 on November 15. The tournament title gave the Garnet back-to-back-to-back ECAC Championships (2007, 2008 & 2009), becoming just the second team to three-peat and the first since 1988 (Geneseo). For the season, the Garnet finished at 16-4-1, ranking as high as No. 15 in the NSCAA National Rankings, while and spending the entire 2009 regular season in the rankings for the first time in program history.
