SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Kathryn Stockbower sunk 18 of her 23 points in the second half and posted 19 rebounds as the Garnet (1-1) pulled off a nail-biter over Middlebury (0-2) 60-57 on day two of the Tip-Off Tournament from Tarble Pavilion.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Anne Miller swam for two season bests and missed the B cut (2:09.12) in the 200 fly by less than a second but it wasn’t enough as a perfect NYU (5-0) defeated the Swarthmore (2-2) women 120-79. Daniel Duncan continued his stellar freshman campaign, touching the wall first in the 200-yard fly and 200-yard free for two of his own season bests Saturday afternoon from Ware Pool. The men lost 112-93.

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Freshman Will Gates – playing in just his second game at Swarthmore College – scored a team-high 18 points, but it was not enough for the Garnet (0-2) who fell to Kenyon College 71-56 in the second game of the 18th Annual Equinox Classic from Gooding Arena at Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Kathryn Stockbower scored 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, but a 30-2 run over a 12-minute stretch in the second half was enough to help visiting TCNJ break open a tight game as the Lions defeated the homestanding Garnet 69-43 in the first game of the 2009 Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament from Tarble Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Danny Walker scored 14 points and freshman Eugene Prymak scored 11 points, five blocks and a game-high eight rebounds in his collegiate debut, but it was not enough as the Garnet (0-1) fought valiantly but fell to Middlebury 65-57 in the first game of the 18th Annual Equinox Classic from Tarble Pavilion on Friday night.

PITTSBURGH – Junior Gage Newman scored the game-tying goal against Transylvania (15-3-2) in the 85th minute of play to send the game into overtime at 1-1, but Swarthmore’s (16-2-3) quest for an appearance in the NCAA Division III men’s soccer Final Four was halted when the Garnet fell to the Pioneers 4-1 in penalty kicks.

Swarthmore badminton split their first two matches of the 2009-10 season, falling 6-3 to Division I Drexel and defeating Bryn Mawr 5-4. Kim Kramer ’10 and Maithili Parikh ’11 led the team in both efforts.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Philippe Celestin and No. 7 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team were the subject of a feature story in Thursday’s Philadelphia Inquirer. The story focuses on the balancing act that Celestin – who scored the Garnet’s game-winning goal on Sunday and performed a stomp music piece at the College’s Rhythm and Motion performance the previous day – and many Swarthmore students face on a dialy basis, as well as the recent success of the men’s soccer team.
