NYU Swims Past Garnet; Miller and Duncan Clock Two Season Bests
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Anne Miller swam for two season bests and missed the B cut (2:09.12) in the 200 fly by less than a second but it wasn't enough as a perfect NYU (5-0) defeated the Swarthmore (2-2) women 120-79. Daniel Duncan continued his stellar freshman campaign, touching the wall first in the 200-yard fly and 200-yard free for two of his own season bests Saturday afternoon from Ware Pool. The men lost 112-93.
Miller touched the wall in 2:09.42 in the 200 fly to miss the B cut time by less than a second but she won the race by three seconds. Miller captured a second season best in the 500 free with a time of 5:24.04 but finished second.
Sophomore Rosalie Lawrence and junior Stephanie Su tied to take home a win in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:37.00 while senior teammate Claire Sheldon recorded a season best and race victory of her own in the 50 free with a time of 26.32.
The women topped the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:02.04 as well as taking the second spot in the relay in 4:12.89.
In the pool for the men, Duncan pulled off the upset in the 200-yard freestyle touching the wall before NYU's James Bedell in 1:48.13 for his season best. Duncan swam to victory in the 200-yard fly for yet another season best in 1:59.88.
In the men's 400-yard medley relay, Swat swam for a season best 3:41.51 and finished first.
Although Swarthmore took the loss, the women swam for a combined 15 individual bests and 2 heat bests while the men clocked 27 individual best and 5 heat bests.
The Garnet will host Ursinus on Tuesday November 24th for its last meet before the holiday. Swimmers will dive in at 6 PM.
