Badminton Opens Season With Split

Swarthmore badminton split their first two matches of the 2009-10 season, falling 6-3 to Division I Drexel and defeating Bryn Mawr 5-4.  Kim Kramer '10 and Maithili Parikh '11 led the team in both efforts.

The dynamic duo achieved the only wins against Drexel, winning their no. 1 doubles match 21-9, 21-14, as well as dominating their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches.  Kramer won at No. 1 21-9, 21-5, while Parikh defeated her opponent 21-3, 21-7.

The Garnet found more success against Bryn Mawr.  Kramer and Parikh cruised in their No. 1 doubles match 21-9, 21-9, and the No. 2 doubles pair of Alice Xiang '10 and Corinne Englebert '13 won 21-18, 21-17.  Kramer and Parikh continued their dominance this season, with Kramer winning no. 1 singles 21-11, 21-7 and Parikh streaking by her No. 2 singles opponent 21-7. 21-7.  Xiang clinched the team win with a 21-9, 19-21, 21-17 win in no. 3 singles.

Swarthmore more badminton now has a break for some intense training.  They continue their season January 23, 2010 at the Main Line Doubles Tournament at Bryn Mawr.
