Stockbower Leads Swarthmore to First Win of the Season Over Middlebury 60-57

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Kathryn Stockbower sunk 18 of her 23 points in the second half and posted 19 rebounds as the Garnet (1-1) pulled off a nail-biter over Middlebury (0-2) 60-57 on day two of the Tip-Off Tournament from Tarble Pavilion.

Stockbower's 23 points and 19 rebounds led the Garnet offense and gives her her 44th career double-double.

For her efforts, Stockbower was named to the All-Tournament team.

Up by only three points freshman Genny Pezzola brought in a pass from senior Lisa Schumacher and knocked down a clutch three-pointer with only 29 seconds on the clock to put the game out of reach for the Middlebury Panthers.  Pezzola finished the game with five points.

In a slow first half that saw the Garnet shoot only 31% from the field, the Garnet offense was held together by freshman Madeline Ross as she shot perfect 4-4 from the line and 3-3 from the field for 11 points in the first half.

In the second half it was all Stockbower as she came out firing, shooting 56% in the second half to put up 18 points for the Garnet.  Stockbower had 10 rebounds in the second half to give her 19 on the day.

Her 23 points and 19 rebounds adds to her running tally of a now 44 career double-doubles, now her second straight.

Junior Ceylan Bodur added 11 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in the game.

Swarthmore shot much better from the field (43%) in the second half to give them the edge over the Panthers' 29% shooting from the field.

The Garnet will hit the court again on Tuesday November 24th when Dickinson visits Tarble Pavilion for an early season Centennial Conference showdown.  Action starts at 7 PM.

Notes: Along with Stockbower, Nina Voith (Haverford), Jess Imhof (TCNJ) and Kate Fallon (Middlebury) were named to the All-Tournament team. TCNJ's Hannah Tait was named MVP.
