Softball Falls to Dickinson 1-0, Faces Ursinus in Elimination Game

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – For the second straight game, the Garnet received a gem on the mound from Riley. But the pitching of No. 4 Dickinson kept the Garnet at bay all afternoon as Swarthmore fell to the Red Devils 1-0.

With the loss, the Garnet drop into the loser’s bracket of the 2010 Centennial Conference Softball Tournament and will face No.1 Ursinus on Sunday morning at 10AM from Collegeville.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A sweep of doubles play and singles wins from sophomore Zak Kelm at No. 2 and freshman James Wieler at No. 6 was enough to send the Swarthmore College men’s tennis team to the Centennial Conference Championship match for the second-straight season, as Swat defeated Franklin & Marshall 5-0 in the Centennial semifinals on Saturday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (12-4) is on its way to the Centennial Conference championship match, as the No. 2 seed Garnet defeated No. 3 Dickinson 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts at the College. With the victory, the Garnet will now travel to Baltimore to take on top seed Johns Hopkins for the Centennial title and automatic spot in the NCAA Championships. Action is slated to begin 11:00 a.m.

Swat Baseball Knocks Out Shoremen with 5-1 Win

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Swarthmore College baseball team (20-17) sent the Washington Shoremen (17-16) packing with a 5-1 victory in the round two elimination game of the Centennial Conference baseball playoffs on Blue Jay Diamond.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Muhlenberg’s Alexa Faust broke the Conference, meet and venue records in the pole vault, clearing 12-08.75 to earn her fourth consecutive Centennial Conference pole vault championship to highlight the first day of the Centennial Conference Track & Field Championships from Swarthmore College on Friday.

No. 2 Haverford Handles No. 3 Swat Baseball 15-3 in Playoff Opener

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Making its Centennial Conference playoff debut, the No. 3 Swarthmore College baseball team (19-18) was roughed up by No. 2 Haverford, as the Fords pounded out 15 runs on 14 hits to defeat the Garnet 15-3 on Friday afternoon from Haverford.

With the loss, the Garnet will now face No. 4 Washington in an elimination game from Johns Hopkins tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

Youngblood, Kelm Named All-Centennial

LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Stephen Youngblood and sophomore Zak Kelm of the Swarthmore College men’s tennis team have both been named to the Centennial Conference All-Conference team, the Conference announced on Friday afternoon

Youngblood is a first-team selection while Kelm makes the second team. Youngblood and Kelm also combined to earn second-team honors in doubles.

Wallwork Named Centennial Performer of the Year for Third Consecutive Season; DuBrin, Rosenblum Also Honored

LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Rachel Wallwork was named Centennial Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year for the third consecutive season, while sophomore Rosie DuBrin and freshman Emily Rosenblum were also honored as second-team singles selections, the Conference announced on Friday afternoon. Wallwork and Rosenblum also earned first-team doubles honors.
