Garnet Women Finish Sixth at Dickinson Long/Short Race

CARLISLE, Pa. – Junior Hannah Rose finished 16th in the long race with a time of 24:13 while sophomore Rebecca Hammond was the Garnet’s top finisher in the short race, as the Swarthmore College women’s cross country team opened the season with a sixth place finish in at the Dickinson Long/Short Race on Saturday afternoon.

CARLISLE, Pa. – In his first collegiate race, freshman Robert Fain was the top finisher for the Swarthmore College men’s cross country team in the long race, while sophomore Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey led the Garnet in the short race as Swat combined to earn a 10th place overall team finish at the Dickinson Long/Short on Saturday afternoon.

Volleyball Drops Two in Duck Classic Finale

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team fell just short in its quest to capture three tournament championships in three weekends, as the Garnet (10-3) dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Stevens Duck Classic, losing to FDU-Florham 3-0 ( 22-25, 23-25, 19-25 ) and host Stevens 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 19-25, 18-25).

The losses snap the Garnet’s eight-match winning streak.

First-Half Goals Propel No. 11/13 Garnet Past No. 5/4 Johns Hopkins 2-1

BALTIMORE – Nearly 10 months after Johns Hopkins eliminated the Swarthmore College men’s soccer team from the Centennial Conference playoffs, the Garnet finally got its revenge – and boy was it sweet.

In a battle of the top two teams in the Mid-Atlantic region, No. 11/13 Swarthmore (6-0, 1-0) used first-half goals from junior captain Micah Rose and junior Henry Ainley while also withstanding a furious second-half rally by Hopkins (5-1-1) to defeat the No. 5/4 Blue Jays 2-1 on Saturday afternoon from Homewood Field in Baltimore.

The Conference-opening victory for the Garnet marks the program’s first win at Johns Hopkins since 1990 and puts Swarthmore in prime position to become the No. 1 ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic region for the first time in program history.

Garnet Field Hockey Falls to No. 14 Eastern 2-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore field hockey team (2-3) suffered a tough loss to the No. 14 Eastern Eagles (5-1) in a defensive 2-0 battle on Saturday afternoon from Clothier field.

Streaking Volleyball Takes Two on Opening Day of Duck Classic

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Aiming for its third consecutive tournament championship to open the 2010 season, the red-hot Swarthmore College volleyball team (10-1) got off to another outstanding start on the first day of the Stevens Tech Duck Classic, as the Garnet bested SUNY Oneonta 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-17) and Elmira 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-21) on Friday evening.

The victories extend the Garnet’s winning streak to eight matches, as the squad continues the program’s best start in 35 seasons.
