No. 2 TCNJ Tops Garnet Women 2-0

BOX SCORE

EWING, N.J. - No.2 College of New Jersey scored a pair of goals late in the first half, as the Lions proved to be too much for visiting Swarthmore College women's soccer team (2-3), defeating the Garnet 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Sipiora made five saves in the second half for the Garnet.

Sophomore Jessica Davila scored her fifth goal of the season with 10:10 left in the first half, to put TCNJ ahead 1-0.  The Garnet found themselves in an even deeper hole when sophomore Amy Van Dyk increased the TCNJ lead to 2-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the first half.

Despite the scoreline, the Garnet played well in defeat, creating several scoring opportunities and controlling possession for much of the game.  Swarthmore  managed only one shot on goal for the game, but it was a shot that could have easily changed the outcome of the game. Senior Kirsten Peterson's upper-90 shot in the 57th minute was pushed over the cross bar thanks to an excellent save from TCNJ goalkeeper Kendra Griffith, helping the Lions preserve their 2-0 Lions lead.

In goal for the Garnet, junior Marie Mutryn collected three saves in the first half. Freshman Kaitlyn Sipiora  stepped into the goal for the Garnet in the second half, shutting the Lions’ offense out and recording five saves.

Senior Megan Colombo finished with a team-high three shots.

Swarthmore looks to bounce back this Sunday as they host NYU at home.  The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
