Garnet Field Hockey Falls to No. 14 Eastern 2-0

BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore field hockey team (2-3) suffered a tough loss to the No. 14 Eastern Eagles (5-1) in a defensive 2-0 battle on Saturday afternoon from Clothier field.

Ashmore stopped eight Eastern shots in the game.

The Garnet defense played its heart out from whistle to whistle to keep Swat in the game against a powerful Eagle offense.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Ashmore held her ground in net with eight saves including a diving save late in the second half to keep Swarthmore within two.

The Eagles struck early in the first half with a goal in the sixth minute off of a Lisa Gocht strike and cross from Brittany Moyer.  Swat would hold its ground for the rest of the half.

Eastern's second goal came in the ninth minute of the second half with a breakaway by Abby Wagner.

Despite the score the Garnet played well on both sides of the field.  On offense Swat created three shots on goal, all of which gave the Eagles a scare.

Senior Hadley Roach, sophomore Katie Teleky and freshman Nia Jones would each put a shot on goal.

The Garnet return to the field on Sunday September 19 when it hosts Drew.  Play is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
