35 Swarthmore Student-Athletes Named to Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll

LANCASTER, Pa. – 40 Swarthmore College student-athletes have been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2009-2010 winter season. The honor roll recognizes athletes’ performance both on the court and in the classroom.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The unusually-chilly Arizona weather did little to cool off the smokin’ hot Garnet bats, as the Swarthmore College baseball team (3-0) scored 16 runs on 17 hits to defeat Pitt-Bradford 16-10 on Tuesday afternoon from Desert Edge High School in Goodyear.

Record-Breaking Start for Garnet Outdoor Track at Savannah State Tiger Relays

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Swarthmore College outdoor track & field teams headed south to beautiful Savannah, Georgia to open up the 2010 season, competing in the Savannah State Tiger Relays over the weekend.

The Garnet women opened the season in record-breaking fashion, as the distance medley relay team of senior Mariel Feigen, sophomore Margret Lenfest, sophomore Katie Gonzalez , and freshman Rebecca Hammond broke the 16-year old school record with a time of 13:32.36.

Strong Pitching Leads Swarthmore Baseball To Season-Opening Sweep of Presentation from Desert Classic

BOULDER CREEK, Ariz. – Fantastic pitching performances from sophomores Neil Mejia and Kyle Crawford highlighted the Swarthmore College baseball team’s season-opening sweep of Presentation (S.D.) in the first day of the Desert Classic. The Garnet (2-0) won the first game 5-3 – thanks in part to a three-run rally in the top of seventh inning – while dominating the second game 6-0.

Mejia and Crawford were both outstanding on the mound to propel the Garnet to victories; Mejia (1-0) won the first game with a seven-strikeout performance, while Crawford (1-0) followed with seven strikeouts of his own to pick up his first career shutout.
