Record-Breaking Start for Garnet Outdoor Track at Savannah State Tiger Relays

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Swarthmore College outdoor track & field teams headed south to beautiful Savannah, Georgia to open up the 2010 season, competing in the Savannah State Tiger Relays over the weekend.

The Garnet women opened the season in record-breaking fashion, as the distance medley relay team of senior Mariel Feigen, sophomore Margret Lenfest,  sophomore Katie Gonzalez , and freshman Rebecca Hammond broke the 16-year old school record with a time of 13:32.36.

Also impressive for the women were sophomore Hannah Rose and senior Nathalie Degaiffier. Rose earned a fourth-place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 21:40.83, while Degaiffier took fifth in the javelin (51-00).

On the men's side, junior Chris Mayer-Bacon led the way for the Garnet, taking sixth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.34. Freshman Aaron Moser made an impressive outdoor debut, earning a Top 10 finish (8th) in the javelin with a throw of  119-07.

The Garnet will remain in the Savannah for the remainder of the week training for the upcoming season.
