Volleyball Shut Down by No. 25 Haverford 3-0; Clinch Playoff Berth with McDaniel Loss

BOX SCORE

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Sophomore Genny Pezzola and freshman Kat Montemurro racked up 12 kills apiece for the Garnet but wasn't enough as the nationally ranked, No. 25 Fords blanked Swarthmore 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) in Haverford Wednesday night.

Pezzola leads the Centennial conference in kills per game with 3.71,

Pezzola needs only 14 more kills to surpass Jen Wang's 361 single season kills.

The Garnet traveled to Haverford with hopes of an upset and clinching a Centennial Conference playoff birth.  The Fords took set one easily winning 25-17 but Swarthmore hung tight to give Haverford a match.  In set two Swarthmore kept it close tying the game on four seperate occasions and took the lead at one point before Haverford rallied to win 25-21.

The third set didn't start off well for the Garnet getting down by as much as six points but eventually fought back to not only tie the game but take the lead by three.  The Fords proved to be too much for the Garnet as its lead slowly slipped away and Haverford finished out the match winning in straight sets.

Senior Kearney Bangs kept the Garnet hopes alive throughout the match anchoring the attack with 17 assists.  Bangs also pushed the defense leading with 10 digs.  Sophomore Hillary Santana posted 10 digs as well.

Swarthmore will host Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, October 31, for Senior Day. Genny Pezzola will also try to surpass former Garnet teammate Jen Wang for most kills in a season with 361. Pezzola will look for those 14 kills starting at 1 PM.
