No. 20 Garnet Flood Franklin & Marshall 4-0 on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Seniors Julia Luongo and Maggie DeLorme certainly made it a Senior Day to remember, as the Class of 2010 pair each scored a goal in their final home game at Clothier Field, as the No. 20 Swarthmore College women's soccer team (13-4, 7-3) overwhelmed visiting Franklin & Marshall 4-0 on a rainy Saturday night at the College.

Juniors Kirsten Peterson and Megan Colombo also scored as part of a Garnet attack that registered 25 shots. Sophomore Alyssa Bowie added two assists, while senior Taylor Rhodes added an assist off a corner.

With the victory, the Garnet lock up the No. 4 seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and will host No. 5 Dickinson on Wednesday at a time to be determined.

On a rainy Halloween night where the Garnet were honoring the winningest senior class in program history, there wasn't much that was going to slow down Swarthmore. DeLorme got the scoring started in the 25th minute, appropriately enough picking Senior Night to score her first goal of the season. She headed home a goal off of the Rhodes' corner, giving Swat a 1-0 lead.

The score would remain 1-0 all the way to the second half, but a spree of three goals in 10 minutes put the game out of reach. Colombo scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in 51st minute with the assist from the midfield by Bowie. Then in the 53rd minute, Peterson scored on a cross - also set-up by Bowie, to make it a 3-0 game. Luongo finished it off with a beautiful bending goal from the 18 to bring the score to the 4-0 final.

In goal for the Garnet, sophomore Marie Mutryn picked up the shutout, making three saves.

Swarthmore returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts five-seed Dickinson in the opening round of the Centennial Conference playoffs. The time has yet to be determined.
