Four Runners Named to USTFCCCA Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Four Swarthmore women’s cross country runners were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Women’s All-Academic Team announced Thursday afternoon.

The Garnet female harriers began the year with a pre-season national ranking of 27th in all Division III according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division III Cross Country National Poll. The team hit the trails with a determination and the results shone through at the weekly meets.

PHILADELPHIA — Swarthmore senior Erin Heaney was named the 2008 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic Performer of the Year for volleyball while classmates Cait Mullarkey, Evan Nesterak, Emma Stanley, Natalie Stone and Jason Thrope were also selected Academic All-Stars for their respective sports.

CARLISLE, Pa. — The Swarthmore cross country teams ran the short courses in the Dickinson College Long-Short Invitational. The women placed 7th out of 23 teams and the men placed 11th out of 22 teams on Saturday afternoon.
