Swarthmore Trotters Compete at CC Championships

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Garnet cross country teams traveled to central Pennsylvania to race in the 2008 Centennial Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Gettysburg College on a warm November day.  The women placed fourth as a team while the men registered a seventh-place finish.

The Garnet women had seven runners place in the top 30 slots, led by freshman Melissa Frick (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven), whose personal-best time of 23:03.17 earned her an eighth-place finish. Junior Nyika Corbett (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) ran a season-best time of 23:32.66 to pick-up a 15th place. Closing her Conference career, senior Kathy Feeney (Staatsburg, N.Y. / FDR) crossed the line at 23:49.63 for a 21st place finish.

Swarthmore senior Erik Saka (Quincy, Ill. / Quincy) was the first Garnet male runner to cross the line, clocking in with a season-best time of 26:53.85 to earn a 24th place. Classmate Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) ran 44th, clocking in at 27:44.82.

The cross country teams will travel to Waynesburg, Pa. on Saturday, November 15th to run in the NCAA Mid-East Regionals. The meet is schedule to begin at 11:00 a.m.
