DuMont-McCaffrey Leads Garnet Men to Third-Place Finish in Main Line Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomore Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey clocked in at 21:09.30 to lead the Garnet to a third place finish in the Main Line Invitational on Thursday afternoon. DuMont-McCaffrey’s time earned him 28th place in a field that included Division I Villanova runners.

Garnet Women Finish Sixth at Dickinson Long/Short Race

CARLISLE, Pa. – Junior Hannah Rose finished 16th in the long race with a time of 24:13 while sophomore Rebecca Hammond was the Garnet’s top finisher in the short race, as the Swarthmore College women’s cross country team opened the season with a sixth place finish in at the Dickinson Long/Short Race on Saturday afternoon.

Women Best Alums at 2010 Alumni Race

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore women’s cross country team cruised to victory with a flawless 15 points at the 2010 Swarthmore Alumni Race, held Saturday at the College. Freshman Emma Saarel and senior Rebecca Woo led the women, finishing in 20 minutes, 17 seconds, and 20:22, respectively.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – For the second year in a row, the Swarthmore men’s cross country team triumphed over the alumni – by a score of 15 to 48 – at the annual Swarthmore Alumni Race, now in its 36th year. Sophomores John McMinn, Jacob Phillips, Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey, and Bill King all finished within seven seconds to each other to lay waste to the field at Saturday’s race, held on the College campus.

CARLISLE, Pa. – With its back against the ropes, the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team responded with a huge victory in its Conference opener.

Junior Emily Coleman scored the game-winner in the 77th minute on a counter-attack while sophomore Alexa Ross tied the game in the first half with her first career goal, as the Garnet (2-2, 1-0) traveled into hostile territory and defeated Centennial Conference-nemesis Dickinson 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Swat Volleyball Dominant in Day One of Garnet Classic

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Kathryn Montemurro dominated up front with 19 kills and five service aces while freshman Danielle Sullivan recorded 25 digs in two games to lead the Swarthmore Volleyball team (6-1) over Albright College (1-5) and Marymount University (1-5). The Garnet make quick work of its opponents on Friday night, winning each match 3-0 to stay perfect on day one of the Garnet Classic in Tarble Pavilion.

With the victories Swarthmore is off to its best start since 1975 when the Garnet went 8-0 to start the season.

Swarthmore graduate and former men’s soccer player Ladule Lako Lo Sarah ’09 recently signed a one-year contract to play professional soccer with 1st Division club FK Bregalnica Stip in Macedonia. Men’s soccer head coach Eric Wagner caught up with Lako Lo Sarah, who shared his post-Swarthmore journey with his former coach.

STIP, Macedonia – After a gilt-edged career as a forward and midfielder for the Garnet men’s soccer team, Ladule Lako Lo Sarah ’09 (“La” to his Swarthmore teammates) set off on a post-graduation journey of self-discovery and exploration.

Garnet Field Hockey Delivers in the Clutch, Defeats Richard Stockton 2-1 in Penalty Strokes

POMONA, N.J. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team finished 4-for-4 in penalty strokes following two scoreless overtime periods, as the Garnet (2-0) prevailed over homestanding Richard Stockton 2-1 (2 OT) on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Catie Meador, sophomore Julia Tallarico , senior Devon Novotnak and finally senior Sophia Ferguson all converted their penalty strokes following the second overtime period while the Osprey could only connect on 1-of-4, leaving the Garnet with the thrilling victory.

With the win, Swarthmore is 2-0 for the first time since 2006.
